People who have been through abusive relationships feel comfortable sharing their stories with me. I have been there! I know! I know that my experiences were for a reason and that reason was not only to make me stronger but to give me the insight and the compassion to help others who find themselves in an abusive situation.

The song "Who You Are" was inspired from a friends story of physical abuse that had almost taken her life. But this song is for every woman and even men, who find themselves in emotionally or physically abusive and disempowering situations.

The real message in "Know You " is a message of empowerment. It is about undergoing the experience of having your wings broken by a mate, a parent, a boss or anyone else. Perhaps you have been told over and over again how worthless you were, in some way or another. The message of worthlessness goes deep to the core and it is difficult to find your power, your strength to rise above and start again. But you must! You must let go of the illusion that has been forced upon you by someone who feels so worthless within himself that he projects those feelings upon you.

You become the scapegoat! You become the one he blames for everything! But you are not to blame.

We can't change an abuser, because he does not live in the same reality we do. His reality is distorted! He projects his unconscious inner reality upon you, his scapegoat, and he truly believes it is you who is causing his pain. He cannot and will not take responsibility for his behavior or actions. He really doesn't know you! He doesn't know who you are. You are only a projection of his inner reality. Your need to have him know you and see you will go unmet with an abuser.

The only action we can take when we find ourselves in a disempowering or abusive situation is LEAVE! It can be difficult to leave when you have become so deeply entrenched in the pattern. It is familiar and therefore comfortable. Also if your self-esteem is eroded it is difficult to see yourself making it on your own out in the world. But you will! Once you recover yourself you will thrive again and you will fly again!
